Transition Year Blog

We are two of the Transition Year students of 2011/2012 of Coola Post Primary School. We are in the third week of the course and it has been a great experience so far

So far, we have taken part in surfing in Strandhill Surfschool. It was a great thrill, the feeling of catching a wave B-) the coaches made us feel at home, instead of away (Get it? Lol) Our New Zealand Coaches showed us how it was done. In the coming weeks, we will be going to Strandhill again to improve out Surfing skills.

On our first day back at school and in TY, we were introduced to our ‘Mentees’ (a.k.a. 1^st Years). Our job is to make them feel welcome and make sure they are settling in okay.

Last Monday, the 12^th of September, we took part in the Mentor Quiz with our Mentees, which we organised.  It was a time when we could talk to them and see how they were getting on. It was a close call with table 6 and 16 tying nearly the whole time. After 101 questions, we decided to call it a draw. Congratulations to TY’s Brian Candon and Sáoirse Gormley and their Mentees on winning the Quiz. Afterwards, the 1^st Years enjoyed some light refreshments and got a chance to catch up with their friends.

On Wednesday, 14^th September we received our results from the Junior Certificate Examination. We were delighted with our results. The overall results in the school were extraordinary. Our Teachers’ were very happy for us
